Back In Time awarded restoration grantBy William JohnsonDailyWorld.com

Wanda Juneau, owner of the Back in Time Restaurant and Gift Shop, has been awarded a $2,500 Louisiana Main Street Rehabilitation Grant.

This is the first year the grants, previously known as Facade Grants, have been allowed to be used for work inside a business. Juneau said she will be using the matching grant to repair and restore her building’s interior.

“This is great news. This building dates from the 1920s and it was starting to show its age,” Juneau said. “In this economy, small-business owners can use every penny they can get.”

Melanie Lee with the Main Street Program said helping to restore such historic buildings is what the grants program is all about.

To qualify, a building must be in commerce, located within the city’s historic district and be at least 50 years old. Juneau’s building was built in 1921 and served as Greco’s Shoe Repair Shop until 1990.
