Best Product Awards Show Creativity and High Standard of Quality
Scotland’s Trade Fair Best Product Awards were judged on Sunday, the opening day of the Show and revealed a spectacular line-up of winners. In each of the four categories the winning products showed ‘flair, creativity and strong commercial appeal’ according to the judges.
Judged by industry experts Nancy Smillie, owner of the Nancy Smillie, gift, jewellery and furniture shops in Glasgow, Fiona Fabien, owner of Papyrus gift shops and Lyndsey Dennis, Editor of Gift Focus magazine, there were 16 award winners.
The winners are:
Home & Giftware:
Winner – Tartan Twist – 10 notecards in a gift box (right)
Runner-up – Gillian Kyle’s Fish & Chip range of apron, tea towel and mug
Highly Commended – Amica – stuffed felt toy dog
Highly Commended – Hole in my pocket – tea towel depicting Taggart phrase
Jewellery & Fashion Accessories:
Winner – Chris Lewis – silver necklace (right)
Runner-up – Mala Leather – handbag
Highly commended – Gracie J – necklace
Highly commended – Jules Jules – necklace and earrings set
Clothing & Textiles:
Winner – Mani-stone – cashmere scarf
Runner-up – Twig – wool throw
Highly Commended – Eliz Scott – Harris tweed dog coat
Highly Commended – Country House Interiors – Highland Cow cushion
Launch Gallery (for innovative companies under 2 years old):
Winner – Hairy Coo – key ring and fridge magnet set
Runner-up – Cockadoodle Doo – cards
Highly Commended – Wiggles & Florence – set of four mugs
Highly Commended – Chloe Gardner – Stag range of cushion, card and wrapping paper
Judge Nancy Smillie said of the winners: “It was good to see so many high quality, original products, many of which are from Scotland which is very encouraging. The creativity displayed is excellent and has improved markedly in recent years.”
Fiona Fabien added of the entries in general: “On the whole the packaging was first class and the standard of entries was high, making judging very difficult.”
Chris Lewis who won the jewellery category (see image of necklace above) said: “This is the best endorsement of my products that I could receive and I have had many buyers come especially to my stand because of the award.”
The products were judged on their originality, commercial appeal and value for money. The winners and runners up have logos to use in their marketing materials and the winners received 2 metres of free stand for the 2015 show.
