Capitol gift shop set to open doors
State Rep. Sam Hunt isn’t just the proud father of the Capitol’s new legislative gift shop.
He also is its first customer.
Rather than send out cigars, the Olympia Democrat issued a news release this week to announce that he had purchased a book – the first sale for the fledgling boutique shop that is chock-full of Washington-made products and items bearing the state’s name or emblem.
Hunt had sponsored the bill creating the shop last year.
“These shops are great promotional tools for the state,” Hunt said in his news release, identifying Texas, Nevada and Oregon as other states with shops.
The gift center occupies the southeast corner of the domed Legislative Building’s ground floor, and its souvenirs and gift items include Washington-made crafts, Washington-grown foods, postcards, calendars and items that bear the state’s name or themes.
