Carroll Hospital Center gift shop unveils holiday transformationBy Alisha GeorgeCarrollCountyTimes.com

Westminster, MD – The Carroll Hospital Center gift shop is re-opening its doors today after being transformed into a winter wonderland.

Since Friday, the three windows of the gift shop have been covered with brown paper that said “Elves at work,” while volunteers decorated and stocked the shop with new items for the upcoming holiday season.

Mary Richards, director of volunteer services at the hospital said covering the windows was intended to build anticipation and excitement for Monday’s opening.

“When the shop opened [after the 2003 renovation], it was around Christmastime,” Richards said.

The timing inspired volunteers to gather seasonal gifts for the store, which they have done every year since.

There are 12 of the 50 gift shop volunteers who buy items for the shop during the year, she said, and stock seasonal items for shoppers in November and December.
