Christy’s has candles to burnBy Mary PerezSunHerald.com

Biloxi – This is the time of year for buying gifts and Christy’s Creations is in the business of providing ideas that are more personal than a gift card for Father’s Day, graduations, weddings and anniversaries.

Christy Demoran opened the store at the corner of Veterans Avenue and Pass Road last March. She makes custom baskets for all occasions and fun candles for anytime.

“Candles were a hobby. I’ve been doing them for years,” she said, until she decided to make it a career. “It was the chance of a lifetime for me,” she said, and she sells only her own recipe candles. The gel candles last four times longer than traditional wax candles and the soy candles burn cleaner, she said.

Demoran creates imaginative “Thanks a Million” baskets wrapped in a million dollar bill and beer candles that look like the real thing but last much longer, burning 400 hours.

Her candles range from around $12 and baskets start at $25 and go on up, depending on what the customer wants. She’s made a sparkling basket with jewelry created by her niece, Jessica Mattina, and filled a small baby carriage with gifts.
