Sisters still love running COA gift shopBy Patrick BallWickedLocal.com

Concord – Glassware, jewelry and assorted trinkets populate the shelves of Harvey’s Treasure Chest, a little store inside the Concord Council on Aging where the service is friendly and the bargains are plenty. Harvey’s Treasure Chest opened early in the fall of 2004, with sisters Thelma Soberg and Lil Vaccarello, who are both in their 80s, acting as co-managers.

“They were looking for volunteers and she and I looked at each other and said, ‘We could do it,'” Vaccarello said.

The inventory is all donated, the profits go to the Friends of the COA and everything not sold is given away or bequeathed to the Big Brother Big Sister charity or the Household Goods Recycling Ministry in Acton. Harvey’s Treasure Chest has contributed more than $20,000 to the Friends of the COA, according to Ellen Sathe, volunteer coordinator at the COA. “It really augments the money we get elsewhere,” Sathe said.
