Need to satisfy a sweet tooth this weekend? It’s a piece of cake.

A cupcake, that is.

Coastal Cupcakes, which has been selling its confections on Princess Street in downtown Wilmington since last July, has opened a second location just before the bridge to Wrightsville Beach at 7210 Wrightsville Ave. The new shop, up and running since May 21, has its official grand opening on Saturday.

Starting at noon, drop by for cooking demonstrations, giveaways, samples and a kids’ decorating table. Toast the ribbon cutting with a champagne-flavored cupcake or taste some other varieties. Coastal Cupcakes usually has nine flavors daily, seven that are always available and two rotating specialties, which you can find out about each day if you follow @CoastalCupcakes on Twitter.

My friend and co-worker Shannan Bowen, who covers social networking, really appreciates the Twitter link as she is hesitant to patronize any food establishment without a Twitter presence. So this shop gets the techie thumbs up.
