A funky, small house on Drouillard Road seems an unlikely location for selling unique pieces of art and home decor items, but Terry and Laurie Argent have been doing it successfully for 12 years.

Art Expressions has become known as the go-to place for people seeking something different and a little edgy which they wouldn’t be able to find anywhere else.

“When we go on our buying trips, we’re not looking for what’s popular, we’re looking for what’s new and different,” said Laurie.

“We look for pieces that jump out, pieces that are conversation starters because if we find those for our customers, our name will inevitably come up in the conversation and that’s invaluable.”

The Argents, who have been together for 33 years and married for 25, operated a commercial and residential window-tinting company for 10 years before deciding to use their eye for art in building their own business.

They also sold tile art from a small kiosk at Devonshire Mall before taking the plunge and opening the store.
