Unique New Lenox store shares one-of-a-kind giftsBy Nicole ClarkDailySouthtown.com

When it comes to gift stores, Petals & Twigs used to be the best kept secret in New Lenox.

“Now the secret is out. Everyone’s heard of it,” manager Jan Nemeth said.

Nemeth credited the increased awareness to marketing and advertising during the past year.

“We don’t rely simply on word-of-mouth anymore,” she said.

The craft boutique began as a fundraising initiative of Trinity Services Inc. in 1987.

Along with donating proceeds to Trinity, Petals & Twigs sells merchandise handmade by individuals the organization serves.

A nonprofit organization, Trinity offers educational and vocational services for children and adults with mental and physical disabilities.

In order to fund its initiatives, Trinity has established several charitable businesses such as Petals & Twigs.

Contributing to the long-kept “secret” of the store is its location. The boutique operates out of a 19th century Victorian home on West Francis Road in a woodsy setting.
