Dogeared Jewels & Gifts Announces Success of 2007 Gifts that Give Program
Los Angeles, CA – Dogeared, a trendsetting brand that creates handcrafted jewels and gifts in Los Angeles, was founded by designer Marcia Maizel-Clarke 16 years ago. She was inspired by her desire to put good energy into the world, as well as by the California lifestyle, and her love of beautiful design and craftsmanship. As she began to build her company, she also saw the opportunity to create a different kind of business that reflected her original inspirations.
This holiday season, Dogeared created special limited edition necklaces to benefit One Voice, a Santa Monica based non-profit organization that Maizel-Clarke and her husband, Merlin Clarke have supported in a variety of capacities for 20 years. In fact, one of the company’s early best sellers, Pocket Angels, was produced to benefit One Voice.
Dogeared created a hand cast, faceted heart charm, in gold dipped and sterling silver, in their signature make a Wish and Reminder styles, with 100% of the proceeds benefiting One Voice.
“One Voice lovingly helps good people find good lives,” states Maizel-Clarke. “They do important and life changing work and we have always been honored to be a part of it. Our Dogeared team has been so inspired by the One Voice family that we really wanted to do something special to show our love and support. We thank all our retailers, customers and the press for ensuring that this program was a success.”
Dogeared honored the staff of One Voice at a recent luncheon at the company’s headquarters and studio. The check, in the higher five figures, was presented to Susan Silbert, Executive Director of One Voice.
After everyone from One Voice hugged everyone from Dogeared, Silbert summed it up by saying, “Today the world was exactly as it should be.”
Dogeared continues to support the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation with an annual donation: 100% of the net profits from their “Make a Wish to Stomp Out Breast Cancer” necklaces. The necklace, which comes with either a ribbon a wishbone charm, has enjoyed great success and support from the press, retailers and consumers. The program began over five years ago when Self Magazine invited Dogeared to be part of their Pink Campaign, a cause very close to the Clarkes.
Dogeared supports the humanitarian work of the Surfaid Foundation by continuing to donate the profits from the company’s Heart Chakra necklace to support their Tsunami relief efforts.
“There are so many amazing people and organizations doing so much good for so many people and in so many places,” concluded Maizel-Clarke, “and we are proud to provide support to One Voice, Susan G. Komen, and Surfaid. We founded Dogeared with the vision of putting good energy into the world, and this is one of the ways we are striving to fulfill our dream.”
About Dogeared Jewels & Gifts
When designer Marcia Maizel-Clarke recognized the need for jewelry that speaks, she founded Dogeared Jewels & Gifts in 1991 and she created the original word-jewelry and charms. The response to these and the success of the Make a Wish series of necklaces gave birth to a trendsetting, innovative family of products that capture the magic of words, symbols, wishes and dreams, a magic that has attracted international attention. Dogeared’s unique, custom cast jewels are regularly featured in fashion, lifestyle, and celebrity publications, in films and in television shows. Dogeared is sold by trendsetting retailers around the world, including Nordstrom, Fred Segal, Sundance, Intuition, and Red Envelope. All Dogeared products are handcrafted in Los Angeles.
