Dozens of Educational Opportunities in Dallas this January

Dallas Market Center today announced that the Dallas Total Home & Gift Market, being held Jan. 16-22, 2013, will offer dozens of educational opportunities for attendees.

Headliners that were previously announced include renowned Australian Chef, author and TV personality Curtis Stone and HGTV’s John Gidding.

Stone will return to The Culinary Stage for a product demonstration on Saturday, Jan. 19 at noon in the World Trade Center (WTC) Hall of Nations as part of a full schedule of demonstrations to celebrate Dallas’ expanding housewares marketplace. His line, Kitchen Solutions, is available in Source One Marketing, Trade Mart, 1-1949.

Gidding will speak on “The Role of Accessories in Curb Appeal” on Saturday, Jan. 19 at 10 a.m. in the WTC Hall of Nations and present at the 24th annual ARTS Awards gala, the premier awards program for the home industry, that evening at the Hilton Anatole Hotel.

Additional highlights of the educational opportunities that will be offered during Market include: Bob Coviello, president of HTI Buying Group, will present “Managing by the Numbers” on Thursday, Jan. 17 from 9 a.m. until noon on the 2nd floor of the Trade Mart (room to be announced). Coviello will share his personal profit/loss model as well as highlighting key income and expense formulas used with variables to fit the retail business environment. Participants will leave the seminar with a proven method to assist them in store performance analysis.

Retail Author and Speaker Rick Segel will present “Boot Camp for Successful Retailers” on Wednesday, Jan. 16 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Seasons Gallery, International Trade Plaza (The Plaza), covering marketing, visual merchandising, financials, salesmanship and technology. “Christmas Tablescape Competition and Exhibit” will feature tables decorated with Christmas products found throughout Market, and will be on display in the Trade Plaza.

The Design Stage, located in the WTC Hall of Nations, will offer floral and Christmas product demonstrations Thursday, Jan. 17 through Saturday, Jan. 19 at 9 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. including “Extreme Giftwrap Makeovers,” “Christmas Tree Decorating Tips,” and “Holiday Arrangements in Glass.”

J Schwanke AIFD, PFCI, AAF will lead walking tours on “Christmas and Holiday Trends,” on Thursday, Jan. 17 at 11 a.m.; “Color and Trends” on Friday, Jan. 18 at 11 a.m. and “Visual Merchandising” on Saturday, Jan. 19 at 11 a.m. All tours start in the J Lounge, 1F417, The Plaza. Wholesale/Retail Expert Rawlins Gilliland will lead discovery tours – “Affordable Gifts That Sell” on Thursday, Jan. 17 at 10 a.m. (Trade Mart front escalators); “Unique Gifts & Décor to Differentiate Any Retail Mix” on Thursday, Jan. 17 at 3 p.m. (WTC Hall of Nations fountain); “FINDS Treasures Found,” on Friday, Jan. 18 at 10 a.m. (WTC Hall of Nations fountain); and “Home & Hill Country FINDS” on Friday, Jan. 18 at 3 p.m. (WTC Hall of Nations fountain).
