EcoArts: Brazilian Handicrafts—A Collective of Brazilian Artists Prove that Business Has the Power to Do Good
New York, NY—EcoArts is the North American branch of Centro CAPE/ Brazilian Handicrafts, a collaboration between APEX- Brasil (Brazilian trade and investment promotion agency) and the non-profit group Instituto Centro CAPE aimed at educating the local Brazilian artists in the business of exporting.
This collective for artists was founded by Tania Machado in 2001, who has championed the program.
In 2007, the program enabled artists to export over $2 million of artistic handicrafts. The program teaches the artists participating everything from proper pricing to packaging. EcoArts: Brazilian Handicrafts also contributes to local and national communities in which they trade and ensures honesty, fairness and respect of product and business.
EcoArts: Brazilian Handicrafts celebrates the colors, textures and shapes extracted from the Brazilian culture and reflect the cultural diversity, originality and creativity of the country showcases the knowledge that, in most cases, is passed down from generation to generation. The Brazilian Handicraft industry continues to bring value and constantly improve upon the work of integration between man, environment and primary natural resources.
Brazil is blessed with diverse natural resources, the artists mold with great creativity, from ceramics (marajoara, terracota, figurative and sculptural), to fibers (cotton, sisal, corn and banana trees), stones (soapstone), wood, metal, fabric and many others.
