Egg Harbor: Fitzgeralds Hope To Open Gift Shop
A former Egg Harbor village trustee, whose family-run business in the village was recently sold, appeared at Monday evening’s Town Board meeting seeking a permit to open a new business along Wisconsin 42.
Mike Fitzgerald and his wife, Sharon, sold their Gomy’s Goodies coffee and confectionery shop over the winter. Fitzgerald resigned his post on the Village Board at the end of March.
He and the owners of the building he is planning to rent asked for a modified use permit to combine a gift shop with a small restaurant at 6214 Wisconsin 42. The building is located next to the Rusty Tractor restaurant where the state highway curves eastward, about one mile north of Carlsville.
The last occupant of the building was a barbecue restaurant. Before that, the structure housed Lauri’s Calf-A restaurant, where meals for prisoners in the old Door County were prepared under contract.
The Town Board said Fitzgerald’s plan represented a change of use for the property, requiring a public hearing, to be held at 6 p.m. June 2. The request would next go to the town’s Plan Commission June 13 and back to the board June 20.
