Florist finds news roots for her shopBy Wayne QuesenberrySWVaToday.com

Location is the key to the success of most businesses. That’s why Sue Bailey moved her florist/gift shop to new quarters after two years.

“We were down on Route 52 and we just weren’t doing good,” Bailey said of her House of Flowers. “People couldn’t find us there. So when this spot became available we took it.”

According to Bailey, relocating near the heavily traveled intersection of Ivanhoe Road and Fort Chiswell Road will give her business higher visibility. Her new address is 131 Ivanhoe Road near the former Pic-Pac of Fort Chiswell.

“People are beginning to find us,” Bailey stated. “We’ve been here for two weeks.”

House of Flowers is a family venture. Bailey’s daughters, Kristi Cullop is a floral designer and Sheryl Bailey helps with deliveries.

Even Bailey’s 14-month-old grandson, Cameron Scott Cullop, is growing up in the shop.

“We hope he’ll be a florist or a musician,” Bailey commented. “I’m a gospel singer and I’m trying to start a gospel group. Cameron already sings along with the radio.”

This is the third move for the House of Flowers. Bailey originated the business while she was living in West Virginia.

“I’ve been in Wythe County for 15 years,” she noted. “I’ve always liked to do floral work. I do ceramics, too. I have a kiln and I do pieces for the store.”

Cut flowers, floral arrangements, bud vases, balloons, gift baskets, plush animals and memorial wreaths are among the shops offerings. Glassware by Fenton and Princess House are being stocked.
