Martha’s Vineyard’s Black Dog general store coming to NantucketBy Peter Sutters JrACK.net

Starting this May, there will be a new dog in town. Setting up shop on Straight Wharf will be the Martha’s Vineyard icon The Black Dog, which will open its first Nantucket location with a general store, Black Dog CEO Rob Douglas Jr. said yesterday.

“As a seafaring community, Nantucket is a natural extension for us,” said Douglas.

The Black Dog has signed a long-term lease with Nantucket Island Resorts and will open a general store in a portion of the building currently housing the Hill’s of Nantucket gift shop, offering products stamped with its signature black Labrador logo, as well as baked goods made on Martha’s Vineyard, cookbooks and other island fare.

Hill’s of Nantucket will remain in operation, but occupy a smaller portion of the building near the end of Straight Wharf and adjacent to the Hy-Line summer ticket office, said Henry Wyner, director of retail properties for Nantucket Island Resorts.
