Get Lost in a (bigger) CountryBy Charlene PolDelmarvaNow.com

Snow Hill — It might be called Lost in the Country, but this gift shop is actually located right in the middle of downtown Snow Hill.

Lost in the Country, the gift shop owned by Susanne and Kevin Timmons, recently moved from its location on Washington Street to the former Western Auto building on Green Street.

“We went from 500 square feet to 1,840 square feet,” Susanne Timmons said. “It’s amazing how much I had in that small space. Here you don’t feel claustrophobic or like you have to duck your head.”

Timmons first opened the gift shop four years ago on Washington Street but jumped when the opportunity came to expand and move into the Western Auto space. Her store inhabits half of the Western Auto store that Gus Payne operated for 55 years.

“I think he’s really proud of us,” Timmons said. “He made the right choice in letting another business grow.”

Payne says he’s heard nothing but favorable comments about Lost in the Country.

“It’s been well done,” he said. “She has a knack for it. I think it’s a credit to that street. “

A gift shop might not seem to have much in common with an automobile parts store, but visitors to the shop who look down will see the same hardwood floors that have been there for 55 years and even the same parts counter, Timmons said.

“There’s a lot of history in these floors,” she said. “It ties in well with what I sell. It brings it all to life.”
