Riverton businesswoman puts New Leaf on market
Riverton — A fixture on Main Street could soon be a thing of the past.
The New Leaf Gift Shoppe and Tea Room property has been put on the market.
“It’s just time,” owner Phyllis Rodgers said of selling the property. “When we bought the property, we had a five-year plan for the business. I’ve watched the business grow, and now I’d like to do some traveling and tend to my family.”
Built in 1889 by Ezra Perkins, the Victorian-styled building has served as home to the New Leaf Gift Shoppe for nearly four decades.
Rodgers, a former kindergarten teacher, and her husband, Bryan, purchased the 3,852-square-foot building in January 2003 from the Sczuczewski family, who had owned the New Leaf since 1979.
“I’ve totally enjoyed the business, but when you own a business that’s your life seven days a week,” Rodgers said.
