Food, fun, friends at Girls’ Night Out
Morris – Flowers, flip-flops and a night of shopping dedicated to the girls, what else could a girl ask for?
The Retail and Restaurant Committee hosted its annual Girls’ Night Out in downtown Morris on May 8. This was the fourth year for the event and as in years past, Liberty Street was filled with girls and women of all ages shopping with mothers, sisters, cousins and friends.
About 20 stores and restaurants participated offering refreshments, giveaways and discounts for the girl’s night. Between 1,000 and 1,500 women shopped in town that night, said Bill Barkley, co-chairman of the committee and owner of Liberty Mercantile, a home goods and antique store.
The Front Porch, also a home goods store, offered 10 percent off your entire purchase if the customer was wearing flip-flops sporting the night’s “Flip Flop Frenzy” theme.
In spirit of the tropical theme customers were also given Hawaiian flower pins for their hair or a colorful lei.
“We have a little wine tasting, samples of the gourmet food we sell and chocolate because all ladies like chocolate,” said The Front Porch owner Cathy Fleetwood.
The Front Porch has participated in the event every year.
