Grant Dawson Collections Debuts at NY Tabletop Market
McLean, VA—After more than a decade working in the decorative arts field, well-known artists and designers, Sheri Gorsen and Cindy Testa, have channeled their creative energies into a new socially and environmentally responsible company, Grant Dawson Collections. The company will debut its first series of decorative accessories this spring’s New York Tabletop Week, April 9-13, with approximately 50 items, many featuring an endangered species motif in an effort to help create greater awareness and action by educating people who can make a difference in the fate of these exquisite plants and wildlife.
The company, a founding member of the Sustainable Furniture Council, hand crafts their pieces from FSC certified plantation woods, and wood remnants as well as lead-free pewter, silver and recycled glass. The initial collection will include collector-quality trays, vases, bowls, desk accessories, tableware accents, candle holders and chess sets. Approximate retail pricing will range from $100 to $10,000, and will be available to consumers late Spring 2008.
“Our line of accessories is designed with function, beauty and exceptional craftsmanship foremost,” said company co-founder, Sheri Gorsen, “We expect these pieces to be handed down to future generations, as true objects d’art. Along with the piece itself, is the story of a species whose existence is dependent on humanity’s commitment, goodwill and urgent intervention.”
In addition, the company is involved in micro enterprise development for indigenous populations. Their first project, in association with The BOMA Fund (bomafund.org) provides income-producing work for women in northern Kenya, utilizing their existing skills.
