Greeting Card Association names Inklings Paperie Consumer’s Choice Winner

The Greeting Card Association (GCA) today announced that Inklings Paperie is the winner of the GCA’s 4th annual Consumers’ Choice Award Contest.

The winning entry, (which also won a LOUIE Award in the $4 and above “Thank you” category), the “Heart of Gold” card, is a twist on the traditional thank you card.

“It’s an incredible honor to win the Consumer’s Choice Award,” said Lindsay Henry, founder and creative director, Inklings Paperie. “This card is part of our new line of scratch-off greeting cards, with a hidden message beneath the surface.  There’s something irresistible about scratch-offs and at Inklings, we love to incorporate an element of surprise or wonder in each of our products, and scratch-offs are a fun way to do that.”

The GCA launched the Consumers’ Choice Award to give consumers across the country an opportunity to vote for their favorite card among the best-of-the-best in the annual LOUIE Awards, the definitive awards competition for the greeting card and social expression industry.  More than 240 companies throughout the world submitted nearly 1,000 entries for the LOUIE Awards; all entries were marketed and sold in the U.S. in 2015. Consumers voted for their favorite card among the 60 LOUIE Award winners by “liking” the card on the GCA’s Facebook page during a three-week period following the LOUIE Awards gala held in conjunction with the National Stationery Show.  Additionally, one consumer who shared the LOUIE Gallery on Facebook was selected randomly to receive a selection of the winning cards.  This year’s winner is Kelly Van Winkle (Fishkill, New York).

“This was a year of firsts for us: our first time exhibiting at the National Stationery Show, and our first time entering the LOUIE Awards.” said Henry. “We entered cards in six categories, and were thrilled to have four cards selected as finalists.   My hope is that what we do resonates with people, and serves as a point of connection between two people,” she said.

Launched in 1988 as the International Greeting Card Awards, the LOUIEs are named for Louis Prang, the German-born Boston lithographer and publisher often referred to as the “Father of the American Christmas Card.” A Blue Ribbon Panel of six judges selected two “Cards of the Year” from among all categories. A panel of industry experts judged all entries against five criteria: originality, impact, design excellence, “sendability,” and value; all identifying information about the submitting company was withdrawn from the entries.

“In terms of activity, we saw more consumers taking an active role in supporting their favorite cards than in previous Consumers’ Choice contests, with more than 10,000 views of our LOUIE Award-winning cards,” said Peter Doherty, executive director, GCA. “To encourage more social media engagement, this year the person who won the sampler of LOUIE Award-winning cards shared the photo gallery.  And this special 75th anniversary LOUIE Awards really highlighted the vibrancy and creativity of the greeting card and social expression industry,” he said.
