New Companies to Highlight Handmade

White Plains, NY – Some 30 first-time exhibitors will join Handmade at the New York International Gift Fair – with most of the newcomers located together at the 1D Hall entrance to the division – Saturday, August 11, through Wednesday, August 16, 2007, at New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. Handmade will present a total of 575 juried participants, offering buyers an unparalleled selection of handcrafted items from 35 American states and 13 countries worldwide.”We’re delighted to have such a breadth of new resources in Handmade this August,” said Dorothy Belshaw, GLM senior vice president and NYIGF Director. “And, this focused presentation the Special Events Lobby (at the entrance to Handmade on Level 1) will make it easier for buyers to source and shop the Fair’s newest handcrafted resources.”

  • Nelles Studios (Elk Rapids, MI), cast bronze and aluminum decorative items and toys
  • pip-squeak chapeau etc. (Brooklyn, NY), alpaca knitted children’s items
  • Reilly And Me (Wyckoff, NJ), semi-precious stone jewelry
  • Rootcorn, LLC (San Francisco, CA), pillows and stuffed toys
  • Sugarboo Designs (Roswell, GA), distressed tin frames
  • Tashka by Beatrice (Englewood Cliffs, NJ), semi-precious jewelry collection based on candy items
  • Terry Jackson Designs in Porcelain (Rock Creek, Canada), fine art vases made in translucent Chinese porcelain

The New York International Gift Fair’s Handmade division is the largest wholesale craft market within a gift show in the United States. Exhibitors present a broad range of functional and decorative craft items crafted from wood, metal, glass, fiber and mixed media. Its 575 juried exhibitors are located in Halls 1D and 1E, and the Galleria on Level 4 of the Javits Center.

Handmade exhibitors are selected on the basis of quality of workmanship, as well as creativity and originality. The 2007 Handmade jury members are retailers Marie DiManno of the Museum of American Folk Art, Franci Sagar of Museum of Arts & Design; exhibitors John Gilvey of John P. Gilvey Studio Art Glass, Ltd., Gloria Delaney of Dwelling LLC, Michael Michaud of Silver Seasons and Alden Smith of Aid To Artisans. GLM representatives include Colvin English, Director of Crafts Marketing and Carol Sedestrom Ross, Emerita Director of Crafts Marketing.

GLM and The Crafts Report magazine will host a free buyer breakfast on Saturday, August 11, from 8:30am – 10:00am, in the Special Events lobby at the 1D Hall entrance to Handmade. Handmade is the only NYIGF division open at the Javits Center on Saturday, August 11.

The 153rd semi-annual New York International Gift Fair runs Saturday, August 11, through Thursday, August 16, 2007, at New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, Passenger Ship Terminal Piers 88 and 94 and Metropolitan Pavilion. At Home at Pier 94, Floral & Garden Accessories featuring Outdoor Living and New & Distinctive Resources at Pier 88, and Handmade at the Javits Center, run Saturday, August 11, through Wednesday, August 15; New York’s Newest at the Metropolitan Pavilion runs Sunday, August 12, through Wednesday, August 15; all other Gift Fair divisions run Sunday, August 12, through Thursday, August 16, at the Javits Center.
