Johnson’s expansion aims to keep business poppingBy Ann RichardsonShoreNewsToday.com

Ocean City, MD – Johnson’s Popcorn employees have worked in tight quarters for years, so when a neighboring business vacated, affording the boardwalk business the opportunity to expand, it didn’t let a sour economy stand in their way.

Owner John Stauffer said the boardwalk landmark has churned out the famous caramel popcorn for 70 years and weathered worse storms than the recent recession.

With the businesses flagship store doubling in size, Stauffer said his staff will not only be able to operate the current enterprise more efficiently, they’ll be able to expand offerings like corporate orders, party favors, mail orders and gift items.

Vice president of operations Becky Juzwiak said the spacious new gift shop will better showcase what Johnson’s has to offer.

The famed popcorn has been featured on the Food Network, sold on QVC, voted Best of New Jersey by New Jersey Monthly magazine, mentioned in U.S.A. Today and U.S. Air magazine and named the “Snack of the day” on the Rachel Ray Show.

“We’re very excited,” said Juzwiak. “It’s always exciting to expand, but this is more than just adding more room.”
