Krazy Daze to be ‘rock ‘n’ rollin’ back prices’By Courtney CrauthersEdmondSun.com

Edmond — Krazy shopping fanatics can take a step back into the 1950s during the 56th annual “Krazy Days” sidewalk sale in downtown Edmond from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

The event’s rock ‘n’ roll theme correlates with the year of 1953, which was when Hoot Gibson, owner of McCalls, started the tradition. Karen Morton, president of the Downtown Edmond Business Association, said the way she understands it is that Gibson was on vacation in a town that was having a similar event. He thought it would be a great idea to bring back and implement in Edmond.

Morton said many shop owners and employees will dress up in ’50s outfits and some may even portray ’50s rock stars.

“This year it might be a little noisier,” she said. “I think everyone is really going to try to rock ‘n’ rollin’.”

In the past, the sales event lasted three days, beginning on a Thursday. Morton said, however, that part of the theme was incorporating the event the way it occurred for the first time 56 years ago.

“We are going back to the original,” she said. “We figured we could pack two days with fun and bargains.”

Morton, who owns Sacred Heart Catholic Gifts, a gift shop, said she will be offering 50-75 percent off select items. She said most participating stores will offer similar sales.

“It’s making room for the new merchandise, which makes the cash flow available for the new merchandise. And it’s a good time to promote keeping our tax sales in Edmond,” Morton said. “We have more people downtown during that time so it’s good for the restaurants and coffee shops, too.”
