Lewisville Boutique Owner Saw Opportunity In Town
When Gina Player opened Accessorize This in Lewisville in 2006, some questioned her wisdom in starting a retail business in a town that offered little shopping at the time.
But Player, who has been a part of the Lewisville community since the mid-1990s, saw a need for shopping there.
“It seemed I was always needing a little gift for someone, or maybe a piece of jewelry, but I always had to run to town (Winston-Salem) for everything,” Player said.
Displaying bright purple and white colors, her storefront stands out at its site on Shallowford Road near the intersection with Lewisville-Vienna Road.
Accessorize This offers a variety of fashion accessories and gifts, many of which are handmade by area artisans, such as earrings made by Jay Schiavone of Greensboro from recycled aluminum. The earrings’ uniqueness, along with their “green” nature, have made them a hit with customers. >p>The store features other handcrafted jewelry made from recycled materials by participants in Project Home Development, an organization that helps people in poor communities become more self-sustaining. Brilliantly colored necklaces, bracelets and earrings made of from recycled paper can leave shoppers wondering just how they do it.
