Local shops offer unique gift options for last minute shoppers
Louisville, KY – The countdown to Christmas is on and with just a few days to go, that means you’re running out of time to shop. But there is good news for you procrastinators. WAVE 3’s Shayla Reaves uncovered some great ways to save while avoiding mall madness.
The deals are still out there for last minute shoppers. If you’re not up for the mall, we found other places to save your bucks.
“The whole Frankfort Avenue corridor is a great place to shop,” said Linda Rowley of the Home Textile Outlet. “Solid white dinner napkins, these are normally a $1.69.”
Rowley says she buys closeout items from catalog companies to sell at bargain prices.
“I think everybody is looking to save right now,” she said. “Everybody knows somebody who has been laid off, someone in the family who has been laid off, so I think everybody is looking to save … even those people who haven’t lost a job.”
On Bardstown Road, shop owners say you can find gifts that are affordable, environmentally friendly, in some cases, one of a kind and less than $10.
“I feel like people are looking for something a little more unique this holiday because they can’t buy as many gifts so the ones that they give, they want to be extra special,” said Melissa Liptrap, owner of The Makery on Bardstown Road. “If you’re going to big box stores, you’re probably going to get something that there are hundreds or thousands of and you’re probably going to run into someone who also got the same thing. But here, it is not likely that you’re going to run into someone who receives the same gift as you.”
