Magruder Hospital gift shop run by a tight-knit groupBy James ProffittPortClintonNewsHerald.com

Port Clinton, OH – The Magruder Hospital Gift Shop had its seventh annual holiday open house Friday, and many in the hospital and community came to show their support for the hospital auxiliary.

“We volunteer to do fundraisers and various outings and events to raise money for the hospital,” said Jeanie Hille, part-time gift shop manager. “It saves the hospital a lot of money.”

The auxiliary has around 100 volunteers, according to Hille.

Hille said the 600-square-foot gift shop, which she helped design, was built in 2004 during Magruder’s renovation. She said the old shop was much smaller.

“We donated $10,000 to the hospital at our Nov. 1 luncheon,” Hille said.

In the past, funds donated to Magruder have been used to help purchase digital mammogram equipment and help create private patient rooms.

Hille said her gift shop staff of 35 volunteers are easy to work with.

“They’re angels,” she said. “The volunteers are instrumental in running the shop.”
