Meet Your Merchant: Variety Defines Shop
With such a wide array of gift items, LALOO on Broad Street in Nevada City is not easily categorized.
One thing for sure is: All are welcome.
“People have made the comment that they feel very comfortable when they come in,” says owner Melinda Landsburg. “They just automatically feel good.”
So good, that with the extra space inside, you can even feel free to dance. “Sometimes I have rock ‘n’ roll on (the radio) and I tell them ‘hey, if you want to dance, go for it.'”
Landsburg has amassed a unique variety of gifts, home decor, jewelry and gift cards since opening in April 2001.
“A lot of the items I carry are from American artists, California artists,” says Landsburg. She represents two local artists in LALOO: Monique Hanson creates beautiful animal portraits and Nancy Kaestner does florals and a few animals.
“She’s known for her irises,” says Landsburg.
But this pet-friendly store wouldn’t be complete without gifts for the animal-lover — and the animals.
