Flowers to fishing rods, teapots to tractors, Mom
It’s May. Have you thought of your mom yet?
You likely will by the time Mother’s Day rolls around on May 11.
The Web site, mothersdaycentral.com, says 96 percent of American consumers take part in shopping for Mother’s Day. The National Retail Federation calls Mother’s Day a $14 billion industry. In 2006, the Federation said the average consumer spent $122.16 for their mothers for this day.
How much did you spend?
The Federation said 85.4 percent of consumers sent greeting cards, 67.6 sent flowers, 31.9 sent gift certificates or gift cards and 6.7 percent sent electronics or computer accessories.
Hallmark Cards says Mother’s Day is second only to Christmas as the top holiday for gift-giving and is the third largest card-sending holiday.
In Muskogee, Mother’s Day tops them all, said Georgia Buckley, manager of Coach House Gifts in Arrowhead Mall.
