New shop opening up at Knoll CrestBy PortClintonNewsHerald.com

Artist Laura Brown Egan and entrepreneur Sandee Abele are opening on Saturday Desdemona’s Fine Art and Other Cool Stuff, an art gallery and nautical gift shop.

The store is opening in the Knoll Crest Shopping Plaza in Port Clinton, adjacent to Newport Dry Goods and near Bassett’s IGA.

The Marblehead women, who have been close friends for more than 30 years, have combined their talents to bring the distinct flavor of Lake Erie to Desdemona’s.

“We’ve lived on the shoreline of Lake Erie all of our lives and want to share that nautical flavor,” said Abele. “My task has been to bring in exceptional nautical items that will complement Laura’s fantastic oil paintings.”

The creation of Desdemona’s has been a career-altering decision for Egan and Abele. Egan has taught art for more than 20 years, while Abele had owned a salon in Port Clinton.

“Desdemona’s is the culmination of a dream for both of us,” said Egan. “It gives me the chance to not only spotlight my own art, but to also feature other great artists from the region.”

On display this week will be originals and prints by wildlife artist Adam Grimm, of Elyria, the youngest artist to have won the prestigious Federal Duck Stamp competition.
