New knitting shop brings craft to communityBy Allison McClainShreveportTimes.com

Understanding the need to celebrate a craft that has been around for many years, Nancy Gauthier, of Shreveport, feels like her time to share her love of knitting with the city is now.

Knitting Under the Influence of Nancy will open this month in hopes of providing this community a new shop offering knitting, yarn, and crocheting items and lessons.

“There is a need for this type of business. There isn’t a place around that you can purchase quality materials and learn the craft at the same time,” Gauthier said.

“It’s an absolute passion of mine. I taught myself, so teaching others is what I want to do,” she said.

Knitting Under the Influence will offer women and men a chance to experience a place where they can gather with friends, learn and talk about the art of knitting. A room will be available for anyone interested in learning or becoming skilled in the art of yarn.

“I want people to walk in and feel immediately like they are welcome. It isn’t a consignment shop or a craft store; it’s a down-to-earth, upscale shop,” she said.
