New owner will reopen Reid’s in Myers Park
Tom Coker, who owns a S.C. gourmet food company, approached the owners of Reid’s Fine Foods soon after they announced they were closing with a question: Would they be willing to sell?
Chuck and Pam Richards agreed. And now Reid’s is slated to reopen in Myers Park, marking a new direction for the longtime Charlotte fixture – and a return to its roots as a neighborhood grocer.
“Probably the most appealing part to me was that Tom is committed to maintaining and continuing (the) Reid’s legacy in this community,” said Chuck Richards, who first went to work at the store as a high school bag boy 50 years ago.
The grocer has signed a lease at the Selwyn Corners shopping center, near Selwyn Avenue and Colony Road. It will operate in the 5,000-square-foot space, last occupied by the Tennille & Co. furniture store, in a scaled-back version, with about 15 employees and products such as specialty foods, gifts, wine, cheese and meat.
