At Tapanga’s Trinkets and Treasures, $50 can go a long way, and that’s exactly what its owners want.

The new store, which opened Friday at 3008 S. 17th Ave. in Wausau, carries a smorgasbord of affordable items, from homemade, hand-painted bird feeders to small gift items such as jewelry, candles and children’s toys. And not one item costs more than $50.

“We wanted to make it so everybody can find something, even if it’s a smaller child saying they want to come in and get something for mom or dad for Christmas,” said Joleen Isenhart, who opened the store with her husband, John Isenhart.

The concept for the store developed during the past five years, when the Isenharts began selling some items, including ceramics and bird feeders, at flea markets throughout Wisconsin.

Isenhart, 36, said that after she was laid off from her job in health care, opening the store seemed like the right decision.

“For us, it was a natural time,” she said. “And we found the place that’s just right.”
