NY NOW spotlights original, contemporary craft from makers around the world

NY NOW, the Market for Home, Lifestyle + Gift,is pleased to spotlight its Handmade Designer Maker section for buyers looking for unique handcrafted products. This section features an exciting sourcing experience from domestic and international brands that offer hand-crafted pieces. This August, buyers will discover a growing international presence as well as groups of makers from U.S. cities like Portland and Austin, that are bursting with creativity. Jewelry continues to be a leading trend among Handmade Designer Maker exhibitors, as well as those with sustainable practices and naturally sourced gems. NY NOW will take place in its entirety Sunday, August 12 – Wednesday, August 15, 2018at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City and buyers can find the Handmade Designer Maker section on Level 3 in the 1000-1400 aisles.

• Claire Sommers Buck (Booth #1256) – *NEW*– An independently owned, handmade jewelry line out of Austin, Texas featuring fresh and honest collections that evoke ancient aesthetics and the ornament of a global culture. A dedication to craft, quality, and integrity of design is ingrained in every facet of the brand. All gemstones and metals are nationally-sourced and each collection is designed and handcrafted.
• Little Minnow (Booth #1447) – Returning from an absence – Lizzi and Mary Bradley are sisters, business owners and by a small miracle, still friends! They met back in the 80’s and found themselves both in Austin, TX in 2011. While living in a tiny apartment together, their idea of making handmade women’s accessories came to life. They spent their weekends learning how to screen print, sketching out designs and connecting new products. They will be featuring scarves, travel bags and pins.

Her studio facilitates refining old jewelry using a sustainable process for credit toward the purchase of new jewelry. • David Stepan (Booth #1210) – *NEW* – Featuring fine art culinary ware including extraordinary charcuterie cheese boards, and hand hammered copper cheese tools.  Blurring the lines between art, service and décor, David Stepan explores and features the peculiar grains of wood, stone, and the warmth of hammered copper.
• Elizabeth Benotti Handmade Ceramics (Booth #1259) – Returning from an absence – Lovely, handmade ceramics with a purpose that are thoughtfully designed and pinched, slip cast or wheel thrown in Maine. Each finger impression, brush stroke and etching lends a unique touch to the final object and carries the story of its creation.
• Motawi Tileworks, Inc. (Booth #1180) – Returning from an absence – Nawal is the founder, owner and principal designer of Motawi Tileworks. With her team of designers and craftsmen, she creates handmade, historically informed art tile for installations and as art pieces.
• NaturaPure (Booth #1052) – *NEW*– A Calgary based company focused on helping people live a waste and chemical free life.  NaturaPure’s Wool Dryer Balls are handmade in Canada from cruelty free and ethically sourced Canadian Wool.  Each dryer ball is 100% dye free and environmentally friendly.
• Zass Design (Booth #1030) – *NEW*– Redefining the overlooked, Zass Design turns rescued materials into rad upcycled jewelry and accessories to promote future friendly living. The Company’s hope and dream is that its pieces can make simple changes in one’s life, and help them move towards a more sustainable lifestyle.

International Pavilions

• British Jewellery & Giftware International(Booth #1363 in Handmade Designer Maker and several booths at the rear of the 7700 and 7800 aisles in the Gift section) – British Jewellery & Giftware International (BJGI) formed in 1970, is the leading trade body representing the interests of firms working within one of the most dynamic and exhilarating sectors of British Industry, giftware, jewelry, luggage, home decoration and fashion accessories.
• Chambre Regionale de metiers et de L’Artisanat idf(Booth #1362) – Regional Chamber of Arts & Crafts is a public organization which brings together more than 200,000 craftsmen from the Parisian region. Eight companies will showcase unique and original creations such as handmade jewelry, French espadrille, fashion accessory, art object among other savoir faire. Brands include: Maison Boks & Baum Paris, Fanex France, Lotta Djossou Paris, Clair De Jour Paris and Lorina Balteanu.
• Landesmesse Stuttgart GmbH, Messe Stuttgart(Booth #1376 in Handmade Designer Maker and several booths at the rear of the 7600 and 7700 aisles in the Gift section) – The German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) in cooperation with the AUMA – Association of the German Trade Fair Industry are once again supporting a German group participation, giving more than 10 companies the opportunity to present their excellent products such as jewelry, accessories, gifts, as well as glass and wood art.

New and Convenient Dates

NY NOW will feature a new date pattern for the summer 2018 market offering greater convenience to both buyers and exhibitors. The Handmade Designer Maker section will open along with the rest of NY NOW at 9:00 a.m.on Sunday, August 12and close at 3:00 p.m.on Wednesday, August 15(one hour laterthan previous markets). Please note that no sections are open on Saturday. This date pattern represents a return to NY NOW’s traditional and preferred summer schedule, eliminating the staggered opening of recent markets and allowing buyers to shop all sections of the Market – including Handmade Designer Maker – at any point during the show.
