NYIGF Presents 425+ Global Resources from 48 Countries

More than 425 companies representing 48 countries from around the world will present a wide breadth and depth of global resources at the summer edition of the New York International Gift Fair® (NYIGF®), August 18-22, at New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center and Passenger Ship Terminal Piers. A majority of these international participants will be grouped together in government-sponsored pavilions, located in four of NYIGF’s ten divisions.

In total, 48 countries will be represented at the summer 2012 NYIGF: Afghanistan, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, France, Germany, Ghana, Guatemala, Haiti, Hong Kong, Iceland, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, Lithuania, Malaysia, Mexico, Nepal, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Panama, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Senegal, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, Tunisia, Turkey and the United Kingdom.

“No other U.S. marketplace presents the scale and scope of international resources as NYIGF,” said Christian Falkenberg, NYIGF director and GLM vice president. “The Fair has a depth of design-driven and handmade resources from overseas, and an unparalleled number of individual international exhibitors as well as organized pavilions.”

Seven international pavilions will be located in NYIGF’s General Gift division. Notable among these are – The Ministry of Trade and Industry from Panama and the Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts from India – two groups returning after an absence from NYIGF — and UBIFRANCE returning and expanding its exhibit space to feature 18 companies. Additional groups within General Gift include: British Jewellery & Giftware International; the Israel Export Institute; JETRO New York (Japan); and Landesmesse Stuttgart GmbH, Messe Stuttgart (Germany).

Three first-time international pavilions, representing more than 30 companies from Argentina, Mexico and Lithuania, will exhibit in New York’s Newest. These newcomers include: Comercio Internacional Mexicano with 20 companies; the Consulate General of Argentina with seven companies; and the Lithuanian Trade Group with five companies.

Both individual artisans and design-focused companies from abroad will join two juried NYIGF divisions, Handmade® and Accent on Design®. Handmade® Designer Maker will present Landesmesse Stuttgart GmbH, Messe Stuttgart (Germany) in an expanded space with 22 artisans, as well as a collective of 13 U.K.-based artisans showing handcrafted products in all media. Handmade® Global Design will welcome ProChile back to NYIGF following a hiatus from the market with 11 companies, along with International Trade Projects/Equilibrium (South Africa) and the Israel Export Institute.

Within Accent on Design® division, ProMexico/MoMA Destination Design will make its NYIGF debut with 40 companies. Other international collectives include a group of five British designers and four companies from Japan participating under the “Accent on Japan” banner.

Additional globally-based companies, particularly artisanal producers, will participate in Artisan Resource™, a new tradeshow running concurrently with NYIGF, August 19-21, at Pier 92. Designed for U.S.-based volume importers, direct import retailers and wholesalers, Artisan Resource will feature more than 60 overseas artisan producers and production facilities from Afghanistan, Armenia, Colombia, Guatemala, Haiti, India, Mexico, Nepal, Peru, Philippines, South Africa, and West Africa. Official participating groups include: Carana Corporation – Artisans of Morocco; the Ecuador Trade Office, the American Chamber of Commerce of Peru; and Source from South Africa.

The summer market takes place Saturday, August 18, through Wednesday, August 22, at New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center and Passenger Ship Terminal Piers 92 and 94. Some 35,000 attendees from all 50 states and more than 80 countries worldwide are expected. Information and registration is available online at www.nyigf.com.
