NYIGF’s “Night on Broadway” Features Specially-Priced Tickets to Disney’s Newsies The Musical

NEWSIES, Disney’s new, two-time Tony Award® -winning Broadway musical, will be the featured “Night on Broadway” performance during the winter 2013 edition of the New York International Gift Fair® (NYIGF®). As part of this popular NYIGF after-hours event, tickets for the Monday, January 28, performance are specially priced at $77 each, with the difference absorbed by NYIGF.

“NYIGF’s ‘Night on Broadway’ is a popular and much-anticipated after-hours event for market participants,” said Christian Falkenberg, NYIGF director and GLM vice president. “We’re delighted to offer specially priced tickets to a two-time Tony award winner as part of our ‘only in New York’ slate of events.”

NEWSIES earned the 2012 Tony awards for Best Choreography and the Best Original Score. The show features a score by Disney legend and eight-time Academy Award® winner Alan Menken, a book by four-time Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein, and choreography by Tony Award nominee Christopher Gattelli. It is directed by Tony Award nominee Jeff Calhoun.

Inspired by the real-life “Newsboy Strike of 1899,” NEWSIES is the story about an unlikely band of underdogs who take on the biggest names in publishing in a remarkable fight for justice and fair pay. Set in New York City at the turn of the century, the plot centers around Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy who leads a ragged band of “newsies” in a fight against publishers Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst, who raise newspaper distribution prices at their expense.

NEWSIES tickets will be available for purchase, after October 12, online at www.nyigf.com/programs. The musical is playing at New York City’s Nederlander Theatre at 208 West 41st Street. Information is available online at www.newsiesthemusical.com

NYIGF is the nation’s premier gift, home and lifestyle marketplace, with 2,800 exhibiting companies featuring an extraordinary breadth and depth of design-driven home fashion products and complementary giftware. The winter market takes place Saturday January 26, through Wednesday, January 30, 2013, at New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center and Passenger Ship Terminal Piers 92 and 94. Some 35,000 attendees from all 50 states and more than 80 countries worldwide are expected. Information and registration is available online at www.nyigf.com.
