Serendipity Unique Home & Garden, a new retail shop featuring repurposed antiques, has opened in the Village of Arroyo Grande.

Owner Karrie Machado of San Jose welcomed her first customers at a grand opening May 1.

Machado and her husband, Stanley, own two commercial cleaning businesses in the Bay Area. Stanley Machado’s family has owned a ranch in San Luis Obispo County for more than a century, Karrie Machado said.

“I like antiques, but in a repurposed fashion,” she said. “I like them to be updated. I like finding things, finding little treasures.”

At Serendipity, customers can find items such as tables and chairs, lighting, pillows and plants for the home. There are also gift items and art, she said.
