Planet Dog Extends Popular Lifestyle Brand To Elders In The Pack
Portland, ME – Planet Dog, maker of the world famous Orbee-Tuff toys, knows a dog is only as old and the way of his tail. That’s why they are proud to announce their new line of chew and squeaky toys designed specifically for elder dogs in the pack.
The line, appropriately called Old Soul, innovatively addresses issues that every dog eventually experiences as they grow older and wiser: reduced vision and “snout strength” and weakened muscles and joints. It features Orbee Balls and Bones and Slobber-Wick‰ Squeak Buddies and Bones – all in three sizes. The addition of Old Soul rounds out Planet Dog’s mission to offer playful, premium, 100% guaranteed toys to dogs of all ages: puppies, adults and now senior dogs.
Customers will find Old Soul Orbee-Tuff material extra soft and uniquely pliable and stretchy. The toys were specifically designed for senior dogs whose chewing strength and urgency has waned over the years, but who still want to enjoy a good gummy. Planet Dog added double the natural mint oil to be sure they could enjoy the scent as they did in yesteryear.
The colors of the Orbee Balls are high-contrast to make seeing them easier. The classic silvery white that represents those among us who are “older and wiser” has been complimented with a fresh teal – making it appropriate for both male and female dogs. As an added audio bonus, the Bones naturally make a fun “clicking” sound when squeezed together.
Like all the other Orbee-Tuff toys that Planet Dog makes, Old Soul is 100% recyclable, buoyant, bouncy, non-toxic and made in the U.S.A. Because Orbee-Tuff Old Soul was designed specifically for senior dogs, it is not appropriate for aggressive chewers, but it may be enjoyed by dogs of all ages who have gentle jaws.
Along with the Orbee-Tuff toys, Planet Dog has also designed a fun selection of Slobber-Wick Buddies and Bones in high-contrasting colors for older eyes. Buddies are silver with “old soul” embroidered over the heart in teal. Bones are just the reverse: teal fabric with “old soul” in silver embroidered in the center. Each Slobber-Wick toy is filled with 100% poly-fleece and a double-bellow squeaker. The Old Soul Orbee Bone is available in small, medium and large for a wholesale cost of $3.50, $5.50 and $7.00. The Old Soul Slobber-Wick Buddies and Bones are also available in small, medium and large for a wholesale cost of $3.00, $4.00 and $5.00. The new products will be available to ship in April, but retailers can place pre-orders online now at planetdogretailer.com or by calling 800-381-1516.
Whether creating great products, providing financial resources or helping to educate consumers about canine-related issues, Planet Dog is proud to be a pet industry leader with proven socially responsible initiatives that bring people and dogs together for fun and mutual support. “As a small company doing big things, our goal has been and will always be to improve the world around us by giving back to our community, our workforce and the environment,” says Alex Fisher, Planet Dog’s co-founder and Chief Creative Officer. “Our internal mantra is ‘think globally, act doggedly’. When running a business, it’s easy to get absorbed in just the dollars and cents. The mantra helps keep us focused on the higher cause for which we entered this industry,” adds Fisher.
Planet Dog’s flagship initiative is the Planet Dog Foundation. The Foundation, whose philanthropic mission is to promote and celebrate programs that enable dogs to serve and support their best friends, receives a percentage of every Planet Dog purchase. In turn, it is donated back to non-profit canine service programs nation-wide.
“We’re doing what no other pet product company is doing,” says Catherine Frost, Planet Dog’s Director of Marketing. “We offer unique, top-quality products that dogs love, while creating awareness of how much service dogs give back to people in our society,” adds Frost.
In 2007, PDF doubled its cash and in-kind donations from the previous year giving more than $200,000 to several worthy organizations. “Our goal is for our actions to speak louder than woofs,” adds Frost.
