NSS ‘Operation Caring Connection’ yields 2.5 tons for US Troops

WHITE PLAINS, NY — Countless United States soldiers will soon find themselves with new communication tools, thanks in large part to a collection effort during the 2008 National Stationery Show (NSS).

Operation Caring Connection, a NSS initiative that encourages exhibitors to donate social stationery, notecards, journals and writing instruments, collected nearly 2.5 tons of product valued at approximately $20,000.

The product was shipped to the United Services Organizations (USO) to complement the USO Care Package Program, which provides necessary supplies to troops deploying to Afghanistan, Iraq and other overseas locations. Collectively, the programs aim to boost the morale of troops by providing them with the items necessary to communicate with family and friends.

“The National Stationery Show is a most appropriate platform to facilitate a program that enables personal connection between and among military service personnel and their families,” said Patti Stracher, show manager. “It is GLM’s distinct privilege to collaborate with the USO, and to provide a way for our exhibiting customers to extend their good will through Operation Caring Connection.”

NSS exhibitors participating in the 2008 Operation Caring Connection initiative included Crane & Co., Days Like Tomorrow, dotmine group, Knock Knock, Laughing Elephant, New Harbinger, Paper Images, Rag & Bone Bindery, Silvery Moon Graphics, Smead/M.O. and Sourcebooks, Inc., among others.

The 63rd annual National Stationery Show, the nation’s leading marketplace for the social stationery industry, will run Sunday, May 17, through Wednesday, May 20, 2009, at New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. The Show will feature approximately 1,200 exhibiting companies and attract some 15,000 attendees. It will once again collocate with The Supply Side, an annual exposition featuring suppliers to the social stationery, giftware and graphic arts industries; SURTEX, North America’s premier international trade show for selling and licensing art and design; and the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF), North America’s singular showcase for contemporary design.

The National Stationery Show is owned and managed by GLM, a dmg world media business.
