Owego Gift Shop Receives “Best Dressed Window” Award
If you’ve ever gone to New York’s downtown Manhattan to shop before Christmas, you would know that window shopping takes on a whole new meaning during this festive season. Holiday window displays have long been a tradition to attract shoppers into the stores to spend their money.
As we decorate our homes for this season, we decorate our stores as well.
For the 3rd year, about 15 businesses in downtown Owego have splashed their storefronts with holiday decorations, adding a festive feel to the commercial district as they competed in a decorating contest organized by the Tioga County Chamber of Commerce through the Lights on the River Committee. Eight impartial judges toured the streets of the historic marketplace on December 2 to place their vote for the best. Criteria to be the “best” included sparkle effect, eye appeal, creativity, theme, and overall attractiveness.
Congratulations to East of the Sun, West of the Moon (yes, that’s the whole name of the store) located on Front Street in Owego, who was voted #1 in the “Bring the Spirit to Life Window Decorating Contest.” Owner, Jamy Howard, selected a primary white color theme to create a stunningly beautiful, classy display which is contrasted by a few green wreaths and garland. “I don’t have Christmas products in the store, so I needed to decorate the window to make it seasonal and to showcase my American Handcraft artists’ works,” Howard said.
