DARTMOUTH — Long considered by the locals to be a Padanaram landmark, The Packet has packed up and moved.

Aptly named after a ship that once sailed regularly from England carrying a variety of goods, The Packet carries clothing, jewelry, housewares, gifts and local art.

Located at 250 Elm St. in Padanaram Village for more than 50 years, The Packet relocated to a store just a few hundred feet north at 354 Elm St. The new location will allow greater visibility for the small business and, store owner Helen Francis hopes, an increase in traffic into the shop.

After the building that formerly housed The Packet changed hands, a rent increase prompted Ms. Francis to reconsider her future.

“It was strictly economics,” said Ms. Francis. “The Packet has been the anchor store of Padanaram for so many years, I didn’t want to go anywhere else.”
