LVDC offers ‘Passport to Glamour’

(LAS VEGAS) — High fashion and home furnishings will mingle together at Las Vegas Design Center November 13 for “Passport to Glamour,” open to trade professionals and connoisseurs of design.

Randy Wells, vice president of Las Vegas Design Center, said Passport to Glamour will lead attendees on a day-long tour of insights about capturing the luxury market, featuring leaders throughout the design industry.

“Many of Las Vegas Design Center’s tenants will showcase the bling in their own showrooms and we’ve invited some special guests to share their insights on trends in contemporary design,” Wells said.

The Passport to Glamour event will take place from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. November 13, 2008 at Las Vegas Design Center, 495 S. Grand Central Parkway, on the World Market Center Las Vegas home furnishings campus.

“In light of current economic uncertainty, now may be the most important time for designers to determine their own destiny,” said Steve Nobel, chairman of the Luxury Home Alliance, who will be a featured speaker at Las Vegas Design Center November 13. “Designers have choices. Will our businesses be determined by the market, or shall we determine the market for our businesses? The luxury market has the most potential for growth because affluent consumers—designers’ clients — are the most certain that their desire to live well transcends the uncertainty of the economy.”

Leading designer Gary Hutton, known as the “Dean of West Coast Design,” will share his colorful perspectives on November 13. His theatrical presentation will cover his life and career in the world of design.

The Passport to Glamour event will also provide a rare opportunity for designers to have a one-on-one portfolio review over lunch with editors of Western Interiors & Design magazine.

Michael Wollaeger, editor-in-chief of Western Interiors & Design is playing an active role in the event. Wollaeger said Las Vegas Design Center is rapidly becoming a primary design resource for design professionals throughout the West.

“As a magazine, we want to show the world that the West is all about glamour, excitement and innovation. The Passport to Glamour program a wonderful way to express the new glamour of the West in one of the most glamorous cities in the West—Las Vegas! Passport to Glamour brings some of the leading designers in the country to Las Vegas to discuss trends in contemporary design. It’s a rare opportunity to meet a ‘star’ designer like San Francisco’s Gary Hutton in person, to ask questions, and to learn about where design is going now. I think that the events in the Passport to Glamour can really give designers an edge with regard to their own businesses going forward. It’s also an excellent opportunity to see what’s new in the top showrooms, from fabrics to furniture to accessories.”

Many enjoyable and diverse events are scheduled throughout the day at the Las Vegas Design Center.
