Quahog Republic expands with Plymouth gift shop
Plymouth, MA — For Erik Bevans, the Quahog Republic isn’t just the name of his waterfront restaurant on Bourne’s Mashnee Island. It’s a way of life. So it only made sense for Bevans and two partners to extend the brand beyond the restaurant business when they had problems finding a place to open an eatery in Plymouth.
Bevans, Tom Hughes and Jason Wallin opened a 600-square-foot apparel shop in the Village Landing Marketplace off Water Street last week that expands on the inventory that has been sold in the restaurant’s gift shop. T-shirts, sweatshirts and jackets line the shelves with slogans aimed at reminding the wearer of summer fun.
“I always said I just wanted to run a restaurant,” said Bevans, who expects to employ four or five people in the shop to start. “But the clothing has taken on a life of its own.”
Bevans said the T-shirt shop is geared for the tourists who visit Plymouth, as well as local residents, particularly those who are familiar with Bevans’ restaurant.
