Firm expands to buck the economic trendBy MaltonMercury.co.uk

A business that opened up shop in Scarborough last summer is bucking the economic crisis and expanding into Pickering.

The ladies fashion and gift shop, to be called Rose Cottage, is to take over an empty property in Champleys Mews off the Market Place.

It will be next to a shoe shop and a men’s outfitters.

The first Rose Cottage was opened by Helen Henshaw and her husband, Tim, in Scalby Road, Scarborough, last June.

Helen is the daughter of the late Fred Feast who played Fred Gee in the TV soap Coronation Street.

The latest venture will open on September 28 and Mr Henshaw agreed it was a bold move in the current economic climate.

“Some businesses are expanding rather than contracting and we think Pickering has a lot to offer,” he added.

“We have had customers come to us from Pickering area and asking us why we don’t open there,” said Mr Henshaw who stressed they would continue to run the shop in Scarborough.
