If it’s unique and related to wine, food or microbrews, Christian Nelson said he wants to carry it at Vino and Vines.

Nelson opened Vino and Vines, a specialty wine, cheese, beer, accessories and gift shop in Sneads Ferry in late September. Though he hails from Westchester, N.Y., he said he chose to make Sneads Ferry his home after serving in the Marine Corps as an infantry gunner stationed at Camp Lejune from 2003-07.

“I come from a very big family of wine enthusiasts so I’ve always had a knowledge of wines; I wanted to start something in town, and I knew they needed a wine-specialty shop with someone who is knowledgeable about wines,” he said.

Nelson said he has a great passion for cooking as well, inspired by his mother and family who migrated to the states from Sardinia, Italy, in 1993. After high school he pursued that interest by entering and graduating from the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, N.Y. The curriculum included an extensive wine course, he said.
