Elizabeth City, NC – Now that Halloween has passed, we look forward to Thanksgiving and Christmas — coming quickly within the next few weeks. Christmas trees are already on display as merchants work to get their customers in the “holiday shopping spirit.”

We all know about Black Friday and its shopping success, but I want to remind you of the relatively new National “Small Business Saturday” shopping experience. Saturday, Nov. 30 will be a day to shop local and support our independently owned small businesses in town. These local businesses are truly the core of our local economy.

A 30-second ad for Small Business Saturday encourages, “Some people put everything into their work, their name on the door, and their heart into their community. Small Business Saturday is a day to show our support. A day to shop at stores owned by our friends and neighbors. And do our part for the businesses that do so much for us. On November 30, let’s get out and Shop Small.”
