An environmentally friendly solution to carrying shopping is taking a Fylde town by storm.Shoppers at Willow gift shop and tea room on Breck Road in Poulton are going wild for the store’s special newspaper bags and they are rapidly becoming the town’s hottest fashion accessory.

Owner Mavis Ward spotted the bags at a craft fair last year and has been amazed by their popularity.

She said: “I get so many people coming in and saying they have seen their friends carrying the bags and asking them where they got them from.

“Somebody even said they’d bought someone a gift from the shop and the person had been so pleased with the bag they forgot about the gift inside it!”

The bags are made in India by an organization called the India Shop. They are created by local children in Delhi entirely from recycled Indian newspapers.

The income the organization generates from selling the bags allows it to take care of some of Delhi’s street children so they can go to school instead of being forced to work in jobs such as pulling rickshaws or polishing shoes.

Mrs Ward, 59, who lives in Lea way Close, Thornton added: “When I saw the bags they really captured my imagination.
