Though they share a building parking lot and most of a name, Tea Thyme at Sadie’s and Sister Sadie’s of Iowa are two distinct Fort Dodge businesses.

The restaurant and gift shop, respectively, have operated side by side at 2021 Sixth Ave. S. for more than 18 years.

Many people just assume that Tea Thyme and Sister Sadie’s are one business, said Tea Thyme owner Debra Lacina.

As of Aug. 1, they will be.

On that day, Lacina will take control of Sister Sadie’s upon the retirement of Sue Bergman, who has operated the shop for approximately 25 years.

“She’s going to retire and we’re going to keep working,” said Lacina, with a laugh.

Lacina said that merging the two businesses is a natural progression, and that both shops have complemented each other throughout their histories.
