Olde Gingerbread House Gift Shoppe offers plenty of knicknacks and trinkets
Sherrill, NY – Opening a gift shop is something that Cory Marsh always wanted to do.
Finally, with the help of her family, she will have that chance as The Olde Gingerbread House Gift Shoppe has its grand opening Oct. 10.
The gift shop, which is located on Route 5 in Sherrill where the Gingerbread House Restaurant formerly operated, has been months in the making. Marsh’s husband, Dan, has been busy making improvements to the building and working on shelves for the shop. Her daughter, Brittany, 17, has been helping her set up and will work with her when the shop opens its doors to the public.
Already the rooms are filled with decorative items that reflect everything from the upcoming holiday season to the autumn breezes currently blowing through the area. Additionally, visitors will be able to find whole areas devoted to gourmet foods, apparel and books. Some of this is inspired by Marsh’s own tastes, she said, but other ideas came from the experience she attained working part time at the Olde Canning Factory gift shop in Vernon with C.J. Behne for five years.
“She taught me a lot of decorating ideas and who to talk to for what,” Marsh said of Behne. “She showed me a lot of the ways of building a business.”
In July, Marsh began working on the family’s own gift shop. This is not the first business the family has been involved in, Marsh said, as they owned the Denny’s restaurants in Oneida, Herkimer, Rome and Utica for many years until they sold them two years ago.
