Tiny Gift Shop Big on Collectibles
Comox, BC – A gift shop that specializes in finding new, loving homes for people’s “gently used treasures” has been so successful it’s now one of the core fundraisers for the Filberg Lodge.
The gift shop opened last May as a way to raise a little bit of money to help maintain the historic site. People cleaning out their cupboards were encouraged to donate unwanted items – china, trinkets, collectibles and vintage pieces – to the lodge, which in turn sold them for a good price and poured all of the money into keeping the house and grounds ready for visitors.
Though volunteers hoped the shop would be a success, they weren’t expecting it to take off as it did. It its first year, during which it opened weekends throughout late spring and all of summer, the shop took in $20,000.
