Chocolatier gets a sweet surprise
A chocolatier and owner of her own chocolate store by trade, Barrita Durward is used to dealing with melting treats.
Durward melted the heart of one bride-to-be by replacing 400 chocolate foiled hearts the night before the wedding, after the original hearts melted in the trunk of a car.
For her efforts, Durward, of Vernon, has been named the June winner of the Grand Go Getter award, handed out monthly for customer service recognition by the North Okanagan Employment Enhancement Society.
“Barrita’s kindness and generosity is something I will not soon forget,” said the now-married bride in her nomination letter. “She personally made and hand-wrapped all of our chocolate favours for our wedding reception. She is one of the most thoughtful and giving individuals I’ve encountered in a long time.”
The groom-to-be picked up the chocolates and was given a list of other things to do by his future bride the day before the wedding. He put the original foil chocolates in the trunk of his car and finished the to-do list, but forgot about the chocolates and that it was hot outside.
When he arrived at the Lake Country hall and started to unload the car, the chocolates had completely melted, sending the bride-to-be to tears.
